Gmail login settings in an email client

You can easily configure your Gmail account to work with your email client, allowing you to access all your emails in one place. This will save you time and make it easier for you to stay organized. To do this, you will need to configure the login settings in your email client.
POP and IMAP are both ways to read your Gmail messages in other email clients.

POP

POP can only be used for a single computer. Emails aren't synced in real time. Instead, they're downloaded and you decide how often you want to download new emails.

  1. Enable POP in your Gmail account.
Log in to your Gmail account, go to Settings (See all settings), and click on the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab. Under "POP download," select "Enable POP for all mail" and click on "Save Changes."
  2. Open your email client, go to the Account Settings and search for the "Add Account" option. Configure the login settings using the following fields:
    • Incoming Mail (POP) Server: pop.gmail.com
    • Requires SSL: Yes
    • Port: 995
    • Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.gmail.com
    • Requires SSL: Yes
    • Requires TLS: Yes (if available)
    • Requires Authentication: Yes
    • Port for TLS/STARTTLS: 587
    • Server timeouts: Greater than 1 minute (5 is recommended)
    • Full Name or Display Name: "Your name"
    • Account Name, User Name, or Email address: "Your email address"
    • Password: "Your Gmail password"

IMAP

IMAP can be used across multiple devices. Emails are synced in real time.

  1. Enable IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) in your Gmail account. This will allow your email client to access your emails remotely.
To do this, log in to your Gmail account, go to Settings (See all settings), and click on the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab. Under "IMAP Access," select "Enable IMAP" and click on "Save Changes."
  2. Open your email client, go to the Account Settings and search for the "Add Account" option. Configure the login settings using the following fields:
    • IMAP Server: imap.gmail.com
    • Requires SSL: Yes
    • Requires TLS: Yes (if available)
    • Port: 993

If you encounter any issues during the setup process, you can refer to the Gmail Help Center for specific instructions.

Secure Gmail login

Protect your account with 2-Step Verification.

Prevent hackers from accessing your account with an additional layer of security. When you sign in to Gmail, two-step verification helps make sure your personal information stays private, safe and secure. You can setup this layer of security on the Security panel of your Google Account.

Login from a guest computer (Incognito mode)

If you want to use a device for logging in to Gmail that you does not own, it is worth to act carefully.
You can use the browser by leaving the current Google account signed in, and after you finish your work with Gmail, it will automatically delete your temporary login information from the device.

  1. Open a web browser
  2. Turn ON "Incognito mode"
  3. Go to www.gmail.com
  4. Sign in with your Google Account
  5. After browsing, just close the browser
