Logging in to TikTok on a phone, computer or TV

TikTok can be accessed with a phone number, email address or username, with an external account, or with a QR code. On a computer or TV, the quickest way is to scan the QR code shown on the screen with the app already logged in on the phone.

Which login method is needed?

It is best to log in with the same method that was used to create the account. Someone who signed up with a Google account has no separate TikTok password, so password login does not work until one is set.

• Phone number: with a code received by text message or with a password.
• Email address or username: with a password; a code can also be requested to an email address.
• External account: “Continue with Facebook”, “Continue with Google”, “Continue with Apple”.
• Passkey: the phone's face recognition, fingerprint or PIN instead of a password; it has to be set up first.
• QR code: on a computer or TV, with the app already logged in on the phone.

Logging in with the phone app

1. Install the TikTok app from Google Play or the App Store.
2. Open the app, tap the profile icon, then choose to log in.
3. Choose the login method (phone number, email address or username, or an external account).
4. For a phone number, enter the code received by text message; for an email address or username, enter the password.
5. The app stays logged in, so it is worth protecting the phone with a screen lock. TikTok may also offer to save the login info, which reduces the next login to a single tap.

Logging in on a computer

1. Open tiktok.com/login. The page title is “Log in to TikTok”.
2. With a password: choose the “Use phone / email / username” option, enter the login ID, then the password or the code received.
3. With an external account: click the “Continue with Facebook”, “Continue with Google” or “Continue with Apple” button, and approve the login in the pop-up window.
4. With a QR code: choose the “Use QR code” option; scan the code shown on the screen with the built-in QR code scanner of the phone app, then approve the login on the phone.

Logging in on a TV

The TikTok TV app is available on some smart TVs and streaming devices (for example Android TV, Google TV, and some Samsung and LG devices) and can be installed from the TV's own app store. Typing a password with a remote control is inconvenient, so the TV shows a QR code.

1. On the TV, start the TikTok app and choose to log in.
2. On the phone, open the logged-in TikTok app and use the built-in QR code scanner to scan the code shown on the TV.
3. Approve the login on the phone; the TV then shows videos with the account.
4. On a shared TV, it is worth logging out after use, or removing the TV from the list of logged-in devices in the phone app.

Logging in with a passkey

A passkey is a more secure replacement for a password: the login is approved by the phone's face recognition, fingerprint or PIN, and it cannot be stolen on a fake site. On TikTok, it can be set up in the app, in the profile settings, under the account section; after that, unlocking the phone is enough to log in. It is not available in every country or on every device.

If logging in fails

• Incorrect password: check Caps Lock and the keyboard language. If the password is not known, a new one can be requested on the login screen to the phone number or email address (Help: Log in, “Reset password”).
• No password, because the account was created with an external account: log in with the Google, Facebook or Apple button.
• The code does not arrive: wait a minute or two, check the country code and the spam folder. After too many quick attempts, TikTok temporarily limits requests.
• The phone number or email address is no longer available: account recovery can be requested in the login section of Help.
• The account logged out by itself, or an unknown login is suspected: change the password immediately and follow the Help article “My account has been hacked”.
• The QR code cannot be scanned: the code expires after a few minutes; refresh the page and hold the phone closer to the screen.

On a shared or public computer

• If the browser offers to save the password, decline; it is best to use a private (incognito) window.
• On someone else's computer, QR code login is safer, because no password has to be typed.
• Log out after use, or remove the device from the phone.
